Ranking Configuration
Configure automatic ranking eligibility criteria for students by teaching cycle.
Introduction
The ranking configuration allows you to define eligibility criteria that determine whether a student can be ranked for a given pedagogic month. These criteria vary by teaching cycle (kindergarten, primary, secondary).
Good to know
Ranking is automatically calculated every pedagogic month. Only students meeting the defined criteria will be ranked and appear in honor rolls.
Why configure ranking?
Ensure fairness: only students who participated enough are ranked
Respect cycles: criteria adapted to each teaching level
Automation: the system automatically applies the defined rules
Flexibility: aggregation rules for trimester and full year
Create a configuration
To configure ranking for a cycle, you need to define participation thresholds and the aggregation rule.
Step 1: Select a cycle
On the configuration page, click on the teaching cycle you want to configure (Kindergarten, Primary or Secondary).
Step 2: Define thresholds
Set the minimum participation percentage required for a student to be eligible for monthly ranking.
Step 3: Choose aggregation rule
Select how to determine eligibility for a full trimester or year.
Step 4: Save
Validate the configuration. It will be automatically applied during next ranking calculations.
Participation thresholds
Thresholds determine the minimum level of student participation to be eligible for monthly ranking.
Secondary Cycle
Based on evaluation grades
Courses/evaluations threshold (%)
Minimum percentage of evaluations the student must participate in during the month
💡 Example: with a 30% threshold, a student who participated in at least 30% of the month's evaluations will be eligible for ranking.
Primary and Kindergarten Cycles
Based on competencies
Competency threshold per course (%)
Minimum percentage of a course's competencies that must be evaluated for the course to count as validated
Validated courses threshold (%)
Minimum percentage of validated courses during the month
💡 Example: with a competency threshold of 50% and a course threshold of 40%, a student with at least 50% of competencies evaluated in at least 40% of courses will be eligible.
Aggregation rules
Aggregation rules determine how monthly ranking is used to decide if a student is ranked for a full trimester or year.
All months required
Student must be ranked for ALL months of the period to be ranked for trimester/year
Use for: Strict system where regularity is paramount
At least one month
Student is ranked if ranked for AT LEAST ONE month of the period
Use for: Flexible system encouraging participation
Majority required
Student must be ranked for MORE THAN 50% of the period's months
Use for: Balance between rigor and flexibility
Configurations by cycle
Each teaching cycle has its own ranking criteria adapted to its evaluation method.
Kindergarten Cycle
- • Competency-based evaluation
- • Automatic calculation per pedagogic month
- • Based on developmental competency assessment
Primary Cycle
- • Competency-based evaluation
- • Automatic calculation per pedagogic month
- • Based on subject competency acquisition
Secondary Cycle
- • Grade-based evaluation
- • Automatic calculation per pedagogic month
- • Based on participation in graded evaluations
Best practices
Define thresholds before year starts
Configure ranking for all cycles before the academic year begins to ensure consistency
Communicate criteria
Inform teachers, students and parents about ranking eligibility criteria
Adapt to context
Choose thresholds and rules suited to your education system and pedagogical objectives
Review annually
Reassess your configurations each year to adjust if necessary
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I don't configure ranking?
Without configuration, no student will be automatically ranked. It is therefore essential to configure each cycle you use.
Can I modify a configuration during the year?
Yes, but be careful: changes will only apply to future calculations. Rankings already done will not be automatically recalculated.
Which aggregation rule to choose?
It depends on your pedagogical philosophy: 'All months required' to value regularity, 'At least one month' to encourage, 'Majority' for a compromise.
Will students see why they are not ranked?
The system records the reason for ineligibility, which teachers and administrators can consult.
